This carnival-esque sculpture is Hurricane Noel, the deadliest storm of the 2007 season, passing over Maine. Nathalie Miebach, a Boston-based artist and newly-named TED Global Fellow, collected weather data from the region and used the information to inform her work. The data indicated air temperature, barometric pressure, and wave height. She then took the data and, with basket weaving techniques, folded its chaotic lines together to create her three-dimensional sculpture. Beautiful and informative – Science meets art! Brilliant!
