As i was walking past a charity shop the other day i saw a big box of books for a pound. Never one to let an opportunity pass me by i had a little look in and pulled out ‘The last Sherlock Holmes’ by Michael Dibdin. Although i haven’t read any of his work before i had seen another of his books on my book shelf and thought that was as good an omen as any to buy it.
I have to say i really quite enjoyed this book, having read all the Sherlock Holmes stories by Arthur Conan Doyle i was a little apprehansive to its take of Sherlock Holmes but this turned out to be pointless. A good read, fast paced and definitely kept with the ethos of Arthur conan Doyles work. My only niggle was the fact i guessed the ending before it happened but this didn’t take away from the story as it was very well written and kept me turning the pages till the very end. All in all a good book and i’m definitely going to pull out the other Michael Dibdin book i have.
